Okay, so you are probably thinking, what are you on about? Am I right? So, I might have stolen an idea from someone. You might be thinking that stealing is a strong word. I say stolen because the person I stole the idea from has no idea I have stolen her idea (but I am pretty sure she shared her idea so others could use it). I have been following a Youtuber for many years, one of her videos she went through all her products and decided if she is keeping, throwing, or donating them. She was so precise about it. I tend to hold on to things with the idea that “I will get to it eventually” but she does not fall into the same dangerous trap.
Unless she is using the product regularly, it is for a specific purpose (medicine) or it is something she is running out of soon and then will use the ‘spare’ the product losses the spot in her cupboard, (I will let you in on a secret, she did better than I did). I loved how ruthless she was, and I thought it was such a great idea I decided to do it for myself. So, I thought I would share the few products I decided to give away or donate. I am not mean; I can’t tease you about a YouTube channel that I love and then not tell you who is it can I?
It is a family, lifestyle-type channel about a lovely young woman called Elle and her family in Canada. Let me tell you something, Elle honestly has true magic power. The level of motivation I reach by just watching 10 ish minutes of her is impressive.
I will be honest; I was and still am surprised that this video sparked action for me. I pretty much immediately made myself get up and try it. I had quite a few products that I had been keeping hold of (they were in date) but I didn’t want them or they had been slightly used and not agreed with me. So, the old products I threw away, the products I slightly used I asked friends and family if there was anything, they would like to try explaining that some of the products were not brand new. Anything left after that I donated either to a charity (only the brand-new untouched products) or the products slightly used I offered to other people outside of my circle and then threw them away.
I thought you may find it interesting to see the products that I have chosen not to use for one reason or another. I mean without his post you would never have known that the products have been with me as they would never have made it into an empties post.
Here goes:
No 7 Dramatic Lift Mascara 7ml
Superdrug Vitamin E Skin Care Gentle Eye Makeup Remover
Argan Oil Heat Defence Leave-in Spray
No 7 Dramatic Lift Mascara 7ml
I chose to donate this one to a friend, she had run out of mascara, and I have quite a few in my collections I didn’t need it and it was using up space. It probably would have ended up in the bin as I would never have gotten around to using it. There was nothing about it I didn’t like or wouldn’t have tried otherwise. Eventually, when I have used up my mascaras and I get the opportunity I will give this one a go. I have left a link below so I can find it at a later date, and you can try it out yourself. (A little tip: keep an eye on it and it will eventually go on a deal of some sort so you can try other No7 products.
Superdrug Vitamin E Skin Care Gentle Eye Makeup Remover
I first found this about 6 years ago. I briefly worked in a Superdrug shop. (Shh, I left because I didn’t like the boss). I worked mostly down the makeup aisle and on the tills, so I had a lot of time to look at the products (I spent a lot of my pay down the makeup aisle). I found this and bought about 3, mostly because it was cheap, and I got a discount (I think it was 30%, maybe 20%). Well, a friend saw me using it and bought me one for my birthday. It was brand new; I had a couple of makeup removers lined up so I thought it best to donate it to someone who could use it. It is a great product, a very gentle, creamy, and all-around beautiful product, I just knew I would never get around to using it. You can get your hands on it for £2.99 but it is often on some sort of deal.
Argan Oil Heat Defence Leave-in Spray
I have a little mental battle when it comes to heat defence. For it to work you need to cover your hair in it right? You don’t want to put too much on because it will make your hair heavy and oily if you don’t put enough on it will get heat damaged and also it makes your hair wet so then you have to wait for it to dry again if you are looking to straighten your hair.
In the end, I never end up using heat defence because I don’t see a big difference and give up on the item. However, I know someone who likes to try items, doesn’t mind what condition they are in (new/used etc) and is happy to accept things so she can try them, and I love that the products are not being wasted.
I love the other items by this brand I LOVE their hair mask. I have been using it for a couple of years now. I will throw in a little tip, I put a hair mask on with the conditioner, which saves time and still works. I have long hair, so the ends get very dry.
Don’t get me wrong, I know there are only 3 items at the moment but that does not mean I am finished. These are just the first 3. Sadly, a lot of products had to be thrown away because I wasn’t sure how old it was, or I had used a lot of the items, so they had been open for a while etc.
