1645 Clinique Moisture Surge Overnight Mask, My First Impressions

How is everyone? What a crazy time it has been over the past year or so. Who would have thought that 2020 would have brought so much uproar, change, heartache etc? Everyone has been tested, parents, students, businesses, and everyone in between have struggled and lost their lives as they knew them. I really and truly hope that everyone who has been impacted by this past year’s event is slowly managing to go back to normal, or at least their normal.

Now, let’s move away from the disgusting Rona, hey. Doesn’t deserve a second thought if you ask me. I am going to make a very risky assumption (as we all know we shouldn’t assume anything), but I assume, you didn’t click on this post to read about the past year and Rona. I would hope you clicked to read about this product and hear what I’ve got to say.

Right, time to talk about the product, although strictly speaking, I am typing about the product. Unsurprisingly, this is a product I never set out to buy if I am being completely honest. It is something that came as a freebie with an order from Clinique. I have got to hand it to Clinique, they do some good deals and freebies overall. With the freebies I managed to get my hands on, my collection of Clinique items was building up. As you may know, I have been trying to get my product list down. Which was a long way of telling you that I decided to give my sample of this product a go.

I do have one bone to pick with someone at Clinique. I want to know why this sample is so damn small, especially as most of their other samples are at least 30ml. I don’t know who made the decision on the size of this one but whoever it was, if you are reading, I want you to reconsider the size of this sample. In my opinion, the sample size is a bit of a cop-out. To see if your skin gets on with a product you need a couple of uses and the 7 ml is for most people one use in a mask.

Although it is extremely cute due to its teeny size, I will admit It was ridiculously cute. But I am not sure if there is any point to a one-use sample, how do you know if you like it with one pathetic use? I will also say that after one use, I do want to try it again, but I am not prepared to pay £33 for a 100ml bottle, I wish there were a smaller version or a better sample size to see if I love the product before committing to such a price. While we are on the subject, I am not loving the price in general but when a wash of product is more than £20 it makes me wonder what the point of it is. I’d much rather spend my money on a product that is going to stay on my skin and work its magic rather than go down the drain, ya know what I mean?

I wasn’t sure what to expect because I had never used an overnight mask before. I will point out that there were no instructions as to how to use it on the bottle. I suppose the sample would have been too small, but I find that with most Clinique products, the instructions on how to use the products are on the packaging you recycle, not the actual product. I assumed it is like every other mask and you apply, leave it on for some time then you wipe/wash it off. I mean, I don’t want it all over my pillow, so I am not going to be sleeping in it.

To me the consistency was quite like your typical face cream product, it was a pale pink colour, like the colour of the packaging. I wasn’t sure what to expect when I applied the product. Initially, it was quite refreshing and pleasant. Nice and cool on the skin as most creams are. Nice and simple to apply, just like you would a face cream or another kind of mask. Something that I have been looking at recently is the ingredients. I am no expert in ingredients, but knowing the number of ingredients says a lot. Most creams have between 40 and 50 ingredients which sounds ludicrous. As expected, and annoyingly the top ingredient with this is water. It does bother me when the main ingredient is water. I mean a lot of us in the UK have access to water daily, I don’t want to spend £30 on a product when 50% of it is water. Do you know what I mean?

Another ingredient that you will find in this product is Glycerin, I have heard it is good for antimicrobial purposes but please do not rely on what I’ve said. Make sure you do your research. I do like the idea of antimicrobial properties in my face products. It would make a difference in the result of a lot of products, or at least I think it would. One ingredient that surprised me is sugar, who knew you would put sugar in a face mask? I am assuming that it would be exfoliating which would benefit many people. You pretty much remove the old and dead skin if you exfoliate. Out with the old and in with the new as they say.

Unsurprisingly there are quite a few extracts of things and butter ingredients. That will be why it is moisturising, nothing like good cocoa butter or shea butter to add that moisture back into that skin of yours. So being very short on knowledge when it comes to ingredients, I already know this would be a great product for those of you suffering from dry skin, so if you can, I do recommend giving this one a go.

I was also quite shocked at how well and how quickly the product sunk into my skin. I am used to masks remaining thick and creamy on the skin and always finding one little bit left over once I think you have finished washing up. With this one, when it came to wiping the excess off, there was not much left. I was quite impressed if I am completely honest. After I had wiped off the little that was left, my skin felt moisturised, but a little on the greasy side for my liking. I felt like I then had to re-cleanse my face to make sure every greasy bit was gone. This could be down to the fact that my skin is more combination, and this product is designed for dry skin, so just keep that in mind if you also do not have dry skin.

Overall, I would recommend this product. It is a nice moisturising mask. I would just say if you do have oily or combination. I would recommend using this one sparingly. And use a cleanser after. If anyone has used this mask and left it on overnight, please let me know what you thought and your results in the comments. I might find myself keeping an eye out to grab it when it is on offer, but I will not be spending £30 + on one product, especially a wash of product.
