Good evening, everyone, can you believe we are two full months into the year 2022 and I haven’t done a beauty haul? Full disclosure, none of this has been purchased this year, I have just been behind and forgotten everything. I know I know… it’s not a good excuse. But it is my only excuse, between little motivation and having a few bits to catch up. I just kept procrastinating and here we are.
Pretty much I went through my makeup, chucked some bits, and then purchased a few bits for the gaps. I don’t wear a lot of makeup these days. As you may know, I changed my job and looking smart is not required anymore. So, I have the best choice of all, I get to choose if and when I wear makeup. Which is everything a girl could ask for.
So, the bits I bought this time are:
Orly Bonder Base Coat
Dove Invisibledry Roll-on deodorant
The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
Maybelline Sky High Mascara
Rimmel Lasting Finish Primer
Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer – Lemon
Revlon Colourstay Longwear Lip Liner
E.L.F Blending Brush
NYX Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Concealer – 2 Shades (Fair and Pale)
NYX Professional Makeup Eye Primer
Random things I know but they were the holes in my makeup collection.
Orly Bonder Base Coat
Those of you who have known me for a while or have been reading for a while will be very aware of how I LOVED painting my nails. Unfortunately, I don’t get to do this anymore. But my biggest tip when it comes to painting nails is to have a good base and topcoat. Be patient and let them fully dry before you try touching anything. I have tried most of the base coats you can get in Superdrug and Boots. When I ran out of the last one, I had, I thought I would treat myself to a more expensive one hoping it would work well and last much longer. After a bit of research, I decided to go for this one, I have used Orly in the past and I believe it was on special when I bought it.
Dove Invisibledry Roll-on deodorant
I don’t know about you, but I have always hated roll-on deodorant. They are cold, they are awkward to use, they are quite wet and when you have used more than half of them, it is particularly annoying to get the product out. I don’t think I have ever finished one. However, I was very aware that the deodorant I am using is not the best for the environment. It was a large bottle so using up a fair bit of space, so I thought I would try this one a go. I have been using this for a few days and so far, I like it. I think it lasts a bit longer than a spray does, but we shall see. The next one I want to use is called ‘Wild’. Let me know in the comments below if there is a product you prefer, in the realm of roll-on deodorants. I am all ears (well, eyes).
The Ordinary Niacinamide 10% + Zinc 1%
I think we can all guess where this product is from and why I purchased it. Over the Rona and lockdown, I got very interested like most people in skincare and getting rid of the crap I have been hoarding. My skin has never been great, quite oily, acne, dry, flaky, bumpy, textured etc. And a certain person on YouTube suggested that this stuff would help fix it and as it is particularly affordable, I thought why not get my hands on it and give it a go? I am currently still working on a skincare routine, once I have got it down, I will be sure to share it.
Maybelline Sky High Mascara
Unfortunately, I have no one to blame for this purchase. I was very easily persuaded that I needed it by the one and only TikTok. It is a dangerous thing, this Tik Tok. I have many mascaras; I didn’t need a new one, but I went and bought it anyway. Last year was a difficult year, we couldn’t do a lot of window shopping so when I saw a product I was interested in, I kinda just thought, “Well, I may as well get it, right?” I have awkward eyes; they are quite small, and the lashes seem to want to do the opposite of what I need every time. It is rather annoying.
Rimmel Lasting Finish Primer
I have no explanation for this one, I saw it, fancied trying it and bought it. I am in two minds when it comes to primer because they tend to be quite an expensive step of your makeup and it’s an invisible part of your makeup. A lot of makeup products say they last 12+ hours, so why should I spend money on something making them last the full 12 hours? But if I see a primer that is on offer, I will give it a go. If you have any cheaper primer suggestions that have worked for you, please leave them in the comments below.
Collection Lasting Perfection Concealer – Lemon
It has been a real minute since I bought one of these. Does anyone else remember when this was the go-to concealer? They have changed the packaging and everything. Or back when the brand was collection 2000. Those were the days. As I wear makeup less these days I was on the ends of a lot of products and this concealer was one. If you have seen me. I am very pale. Which has made finding the correct foundation and concealer a bit tricky. A lot of the time, the lightest shade is orange on me. I believe the shade Lemon is part of the colour correction shades. Lemon (yellow) tones will cover purple shades so bruising, veins etc.
Revlon Colourstay Longwear Lip Liner
This was a very much-needed product; my favourite lipstick runs quite a bit, and I didn’t have a lip liner at all because my previous ones had got very dry and got a funny colour over them, so I chucked them in the bin. I have no clue what makes a good lip liner, I have never really paid a lot of attention as I am not into my lip products. I’m an eye person. I just went for a colour that was similar to my favourite lipstick, am I meant to match the lip liner to the lipstick? I never have.
E.L.F Blending Brush
Now, this one was a total Wim. I didn’t need it, I mostly just wanted it. I have always heard great things about E.L.F makeup and brushes so when I saw this one (which I believe was on offer) I thought, sod it, I’m going to buy it. You can never have enough blending brushes, in my opinion, they come in handy in every aspect of makeup. If I am doing a full face of makeup for an occasion, I end up using every blending brush I own every time.
NYX Can’t Stop Won’t Stop Concealer – 2 Shades (Fair and Pale)
I have not used NYX a lot throughout my makeup experience. I am not sure how much it was around when I was a teen. I don’t remember seeing it much, but then it could have been in Boots, I spent a lot of my time in Superdrug, so I didn’t see NYX. But I hear great things about the brand, and I haven’t had a bad experience so far so when I saw their foundation and the large range of shades, they have I was determined to match my skin. And for the first time in my life, I think I have found a foundation that is too light for me. It is almost completely white which is a great shade for me and does match me, but it makes me look like a ghost. I do need to experiment with it a lot more though.
NYX Professional Makeup Eye Primer
Another product I have never really been all that happy about. You pay money for eye makeup; I shouldn’t have to pay for extra products to make it last the day. It is a brand’s way of making you spend more money which just irritates me. I have also never really been in a situation where I needed my makeup to last for that long. However, as I was treating myself to a couple of bits, I thought I might as well try it out now or forever hold my peace.
