Well…
Let me introduce you to my 6 little fishies. I got 3 Golden tail Endler guppies and 3 Blue/Black Delta tail Guppies. They are stunning and so cute.
I spent about an hour in the shop, the kind gentleman tested my water for me, and it was ready. And then I had to get myself some fish. I looked at every tank. I picked a bit of a rubbish day truthfully. My local fish shop had just got a load of new fish. But it meant that a lot of them couldn’t be bought yet because they had to settle in and without being mean… they had to make sure all of those who were not so healthy got removed from the tanks.
Of course, a couple of the ones I couldn’t have were the ones I wanted. Only natural. You always want what you can’t have. (but I had a master plan… I was going back to get them later).
I was advised to start with 6 of the “smaller fish” (cheaper). That way if the worst did happen it wouldn’t break the bank, and if the worst didn’t happen, I had 6 great little community fish to start me off.
Taking them home was funny, my mum came with me, and I wouldn’t let her put them on the floor. She had to hold them the whole way home. When you bring fish home, it is really important to place the bag in the water so they can acclimate to your water. It’s very vital that you don’t just throw them in your water as it could be a shock and they are only little. I leave them in the back for 25-30 minutes before I tip them into the tank.
Remember to tip out some of the water in the bag away from your tank as you don’t know the conditions of their water. Tip the water out until there is just a little left and then you can slowly tip the bag up. I like the fish to swim out themselves, instead of just tip the bag upside down. Feels a bit softer and is a nice way of letting them explore their new home.
So yeah… I got my first 6 fish. Woo!
