889 Origins Energy-Boosting Gel Moisturiser Review

I just want to start by trying or attempting to explain how amazing the scent of this product is. It is so refreshing and strong but not in an overpowering way, it fills the room without burning your nostrils off.

I originally saw this cream a few years ago but I couldn’t afford it at the time (being an unemployed 14-year-old). I had heard a lot of nice things about it, and I did have the opportunity to ask for birthdays and Christmas but there is no point in trying it once, you need to use a skincare product for a long period to get the full effects of it. You should improve straight away but to get the best benefits continued use is important.

Anyway, as soon as I started my first full-time job and got on top of my spending (buying the essentials) I headed straight to my local John Lewis store and bought this product. I was so excited as I had wanted to try it for a long time and to finally have it in my hands ready to use, I couldn’t wait! (A little side tip, if I find something I want to buy but can’t get it right, I bookmark it (save the link) on my computer and when I feel like treating myself or someone asks if there is something I want for my birthday I go straight to my bookmarks and pick something.)

Now I have used it all up and I’m on to my second pot, which says something for me. I rarely like something so much that I purchase a second one, so it is very safe to say I enjoyed this product. Just everything about this is perfect for me, the gel consistency, the scent, the results, the feeling of it when it is applied, just everything about it is great. The scent is so awakening and refreshing, good for the morning while you are getting ready for the day. It works well under makeup as well which is an important factor for anyone who wears makeup. The consistency lets it sink in and allows your skin to breathe. The perfect description is as Origins put it on their website (link is below). Gel moisturiser is described as lightweight and oil-free, perfect for those of us struggling we an oily t-zone, I typically avoid anything that says oil unless I am putting it in my hair.

One thing I did not know and was a bit shocked about is that there is coffee in it. Who would have thought there is coffee in your face cream? Now, I don’t like the taste of coffee so I have never drunk it and I don’t plan to. I have lived 22 years without needing coffee to get up in the morning so I can live without it. Face cream, I am not opposed to it.

Moving on to using the product. It is easy to use and apply and I don’t find it a chore to use. I always test a product by if I use it or not. If I like it, I don’t try and put off using it but if I am not enjoying it as much then I tend to forget to apply it. I could see the benefits straight away actually; it is a quality product. My skin is feeling refreshed, soft, and moisturized, a little goes a long way. The scent is just divine, I sometimes just sit smelling the pot, I have never smelt a citrus cream like this one before. I believe it is a mix of orange and lemon. If you are not a fan of citrus products, I suggest you stay away from this one but if you are like me and a lover of citrus, then definitely give this one a try. On the days I forget to use this cream (usually the weekends) I can feel my skin getting tighter as the evening gets on. At first, I thought this was the “day cream” and the night-a-mins was the “night” cream, but it does say on the pot that you can use this at night as well. I haven’t been so I will have to give it a go and give you an update.

The packaging is nice as well, glass bottles and pots are posh and luxurious but tricky to travel with. The pot for this one is good but lightweight and has more product than packaging for once. They easily slip into wash bags, and I have never experienced a leak of any of their products and they get thrown in a bag of some sort at least twice a week if not more with me. I am not sure if you are aware, but Origins run a planting tree operation, I don’t know how it works but they are planting trees based on their products and sales, I think. Let me know if you know any more information about this.

I have noticed that when you buy the product, the packaging is not excessive either, just a box and a pot. There is never any paper packing or packing peanuts, or bubble wrap etc. Another major benefit of Origins stick by is not testing on animals. (Disclaimer, I am not completely cruelty-free, but I try to sway to companies and products that are as much as possible). Cruelty-free brands are amazing, to take that kind of stance as a company is brave. It impacts new products’ expensive as they are tested by humans which can also make it slower to get new products out on the shelves. I would be open to testing products on myself (if the science side had come back clear so far).

So overall, I love this product, I have repurchased it (I think I am on my third or fourth pot now, I’ve lost track). I would recommend it to everyone, any of my friends that have had the opportunity to try mine have said they liked it straight away. If you purchase it from Origins directly it is £25 for 50ml. If you would like to check it out, please go to the following link to order it online or you can purchase it in many shops.
