495 Origins Original Skin Retexturising Mask

If you have read my Origins Haul post, you will know I got this item in a set of three at Christmas. I always try to avoid buying a full-sized product the first time particularly if the price is a little high, it sucks when you do not like the product when you pay full price for it. If this happens, I try to give it away to someone who would use it instead of wasting it. I either try to buy new products in a sale, or a gift set of some sort.

I didn’t intentionally buy the set because it had this item, this just so happened to be in the set, but I am glad that it was, it’s a gentle clay mask. You can rarely go wrong with a clay mask. I haven’t found one that hasn’t worked at all. I got a non-setting gel-like mask, a clay mask and a charcoal mask in the set which is a pretty good selection.

The directions tell you to use a thin layer, which I prefer with masks, then you must apply a thick layer it is heavy and drags your skin down. It has exfoliating qualities which I have never seen in a mask before, have I just been missing out or is this quite an innovative product? The exfoliating factors make it a good mask, a 2-in-1 product. The other benefit of a thin-layer product is that you will get more uses out of it, so you get to enjoy it a lot longer.

Upon application, it is a pale pink colour, and it is a setting mask. It doesn’t change colour much when it has dried. Normally it goes a bit lighter when a setting mask dries. It looks a more solid colour instead of quite streaky. Please be careful if you have sensitive skin although it is a gentle clay setting mask you still don’t want to react so if you do have sensitive skin, maybe test a small amount behind your ear before applying it to your entire face.

I like how easy this product is to apply, it goes on smoothly, and it feels like applying face cream. It doesn’t feel like it is dragging your skin around which I hate in a mask. It feels refreshing and cooling when you have it on your skin. This is brilliant for inflammation, any redness, or angry-looking blemishes. For me, they appear lessened and calmer even with one use of this product.

Often a setting mask says to leave on between 10 and 15 minutes but in my experience, they never dry within those allotted timescales. This mask dries quickly as it is a thin layer. Another feature of this mask I noticed straight away is that while it is drying it does not feel extremely tight like your typical mask would. You can still move your head around without the feeling of your face being pulled to one side. I tend not to follow the allotted time with masks, I pick a time where I am just sitting at home getting on with some writing, so I can take a break whenever to remove the product.

As well as drying quickly it is the easiest mask to remove, I have never tried it, and it comes off just as easy as the application, so my first impression of this product is that I love it. It does feel a little tight when completely dry but that is the nature of a clay mask. I am not sure what the benefits are of a setting mask compared to a non-setting mask. Does the setting nature provide benefits? If you know please let me know. All you need is your hands to remove this to get the full exfoliant benefits. Get some warm water and just gently rub the product and it will lift off.

Once removed your skin will feel clean, free of oil and dirt free, this is one of my favourite masks that I have had the pleasure of using lately, I am currently planning on purchasing the full size once I have used up the one, maybe not straight away because I am trying not to have excess products, so I will need to use a few up first.

I don’t think you can buy this product in the size I have because it was part of a Christmas gift set. From what I can see you can only purchase the full size at 100ml for £26.50. So, you would get double what I have. I would say you would get between 15-20 uses out of this mask so roughly £1.50 per mask. How much do you pay for one sheet mask? It seems pricey but when you look out how many uses you get, it’s not a bad price.

You can buy the full-sized product from a few places, including Origins themselves, and John Lewis. Feel Unique, Sephora, Amazon and more. I got mine from John Lewis. I am defo going to be getting the full-sized product just got to use up a few more items first. I love the relationship you get with the salesperson for Origins, they remember you, they know about skin and their products, and they are trained well to pick the best products based on your skin type. You can also get samples which never happens these days.

I would recommend it; I am going to be buying this product again and I look forward to hearing how you guys go on with it. Please let me know how you got on.
