148 Staying on Top

Ever found yourself being buried by assignments or house chores, maybe something silly like making your bed in the morning is being forgotten? I know I have especially in the past month or so. I had just started my final year of college and instead of easing into the second year like I expect they threw us straight into the deep end, giving us three assignments within the first three days. As they did throw us in the deep end I thought right it is time to get my act together.

While I was getting my act together, I found a few things that have helped me stay on top of my work. Here are some of the things I have been using to help me do so, let me know if you use them and if they helped. There are five things good Luck!

Make a List

List everything - I list everything I must do! Sometimes it gets into the hundreds but I love having it all there. That way you don’t forget anything and you can go through it and say, oh I can do that later but that one has to be done now etc. It really helps and it is also very satisfying when you cross the list off!

Important Tasks Go… FIRST!

Prioritise – I have touched on the above, the list also helps with this. Say you have three assignments to do. Write them all down, work out which one has to be completed first and get crackling, if you are like me and they are all due on the same day, make sure you are not spending loads of time doing one and not even starting the other two. I usually finished one task and then do a task from another assignment, so they all get done evenly.

Get Organised

Organised – Keep putting everything back in the same place, this way you do not have to look for things, you know where they are and when you need them you can just grab them. An example for me is last year I always kept my memory stick in a certain pocket of my bag, this year I haven’t been doing that I have forgotten it twice!

Find Motivation

Motivation – struggling with finding the motivation to get your work done? I know I have this year and there is not an easy way to find motivation, unfortunately. What I usually do is think about what I will get out of it when I finished my work. If I am struggling to focus, I take a break, grab a drink, maybe a snack, and might pop into the shop for a bit of fresh air. Then I come back and say to myself “Get this done and out the way, then you can relax and watch a movie with a bowl of popcorn.” Just think about how relaxed you will feel once you have finished it.

Be Productive

Productiveness – I always find if I get up later than usual I do not have anywhere near as much drive. If I get up early I feel like I can get a lot done in a day so I am determined to get it completed. I find if I haven’t got anywhere to go that day, I end up staying in my PJs and then I don’t get things done either, so get up and get dressed. That way you can cross off more things on your list and maybe get to watch two movies.
