Have you learned your Theory? The theory is harder than you think. Some of the questions you won’t know the answer to until you have had a few lessons and are learning the rules of the road!
The main tips I can give you are NOOOO rushing (take your time!), don’t be too busy the week of your test and lastly if something happens around the time like illness, a death, or an accident, pretty much anything that might be distracting, CANCEL!
It can take you 1 attempt or 50 attempts, personally, if it got to 4 attempts I would give up as that is almost £130 on the theory test!
Your instructor will probably show you a book from the DSA (if you live in England) and tell you to buy it. I bought the book that was recommended and a set of a book and DVD.
This together was £20. The only thing that I really used was the DVD. The book that came with the DVD I don’t think to go open, and the book I bought, did get used but I wouldn’t say it is essential.
They are mainly common-sense questions or ones that you could work out without the knowledge off the top of your head. Example: If someone is crossing a road what do you do? Or when should you use your horn?
The theory is a multiple-choice test. There are often 4 answers, 2 will be completely wrong, 1 will be almost correct and the last 1 is the correct answer. You get plenty of time to answer the questions, what I did was if I was unsure if my answer was correct, I would flag it, so you can go back to it and double-check. Next is hazard perception, every time you see something new, or something move, a light comes on, a crossing or anything similar click, BUT do not, I repeat do not sit there clicking to a rhythm or too much as this will get you disqualified.
Then you are finished. For first-time theory-takers, the key to look for is if they stamp the letter, you are being given you have passed.
Good luck everyone!
